  9.  WHAT IS IT?
  10.  Merit's "Cruise of the Internet" is a computer-based tutorial for new
  11.  as well as experienced Internet "navigators."  The Cruise will introduce
  12.  you to Internet resources as diverse as supercomputing, minorities,
  13.  multimedia, and even cooking. It will also provide information about the
  14.  tools needed to access those resources.
  15.  
  16.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  17.  This tutorial will run on any color Macintosh which is capable of
  18.  displaying 256 colors. To run the Cruise tutorial you will need:
  19.  
  20.     - A Macintosh II, LC or Quadra series computer
  21.     - 8-bit color and any color monitor  (12" minimum)
  22.     - System 6.05 or 7.x
  23.     - Approximately 3 MB of disk space
  24.     - 4 MB RAM is recommended
  25.     - Internet connectivity and software that does file transfers via FTP.

  27.  HOW TO INSTALL IT:
  28.  1. Use Fetch to connect to nic.merit.edu (user: anonymous, password: guest,
  29.     directory: resources/cruise.mac) and get the files:
  30.          merit.cruise2.mac.readme
  31.          merit.cruise2.mac.hqx
  32.     Alternatively, you can use any other software that does Anonymous FTP,
  33.     but you will have to use BinHex, or StuffItLite to convert the .hqx
  34.     file to a Mac executable form.
  35.  2. Pull down your Apple menu and select CONTROL PANELS.
  36.  3. Select MONITORS from your Control Panel.
  37.  4. Set your Monitors control panel device to 256 colors. (Note: any other
  38.     setting will degrade the performance and display of your tutorial.)
  39.  5. If you are running Multifinder or System 7, quit all open applications.
  40.  6. Run the tutorial from the copy on your hard drive by double-clicking on
  41.     the projector icon labeled "Merit's Cruise 2.01."
  42.  
  43.  Note: If you do not have Internet connectivity from your Mac, you may
  44.  still be able to acquire the Cruise.  Talk to your local support staff
  45.  to determine if other machines on your campus have FTP capabilities and
  46.  a way to transfer files to your Mac. Or, send your name and address,
  47.  specify that you want the Mac version (1.44MB HD diskette only), and
  48.  include a check or money order for $10.00US (payable to "University of
  49.  Michigan") or your VISA/MasterCard number (including the expiration date
  50.  and your signature) to:

  57.  DISTRIBUTION:
  58.  You may copy and distribute the Cruise without charge. You must include
  59.  the merit.cruise2.mac.readme file with the Cruise and you may not charge
  60.  any fees for the distribution of the Cruise.

  62.  A version of the cruise for IBM-DOS and DOS compatibles running Windows
  63.  is also available for Anonymous FTP from nic.merit.edu in the
  64.  /internet/resources/cruise.dos directory.
